چکیده

Pt/SiO2 model catalyst samples, prepared under UHV conditions in a contiguous high pressure reactor cell surface analysis chamber, have been characterized via CO oxidation reaction kinetics under elevated pressure conditions (approaching 1 atm). Reaction kinetics are studied as a function of Pt coverage (hPt = 1–10 mL), along with measurements on a Pt(110) single crystal for direct comparison. CO desorption measurements and STM measurements on Pt/SiO2 films at T = 300 K have been obtained at various hPt. Kinetic results show agreement between observations on single crystal and catalyst samples, and general agreement and correlation is obtained for site calculations across the various methods. Results demonstrate the utility of well characterized model catalyst samples in obtaining qualitative and quantitative reactivity data at elevated pressures.

Simulating the Complexities of Heterogeneous Catalysis with Model Systems: Case studies of SiO2 Supported Pt-Group Metals

Model catalyst surfaces, consisting of vapordeposited metal nanoparticles supported on a planar oxide support, can help to link reactivity studies on well-defined single crystal surfaces with those conducted on high-surface area supported catalysts. When coupled with near atmospheric pressure kinetic and spectroscopic techniques, these well-defined model catalyst surfaces represent a useful app...

CO oxidation over ZnO films on Pt(111) at near-atmospheric pressures

Well-ordered ultrathin ZnO(0001) films were grown on Pt(111) in a layer-by-layer mode. The reactivity of the films as a function of the film thickness and coverage was examined by the CO oxidation reaction at near-atmospheric pressures. At low temperatures ( 450 K), CO2 production is found to be much higher on the films of partial coverage than on dense ZnO(0001) films and bare Pt(111). Under r...

Vibrational spectroscopic studies on CO adsorption, NO adsorption CO þ NO reaction on Pd model catalysts

CO adsorption, NO adsorption and CO þ NO reaction on various Pd model catalysts have been studied using vibrational spectroscopy from ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) up to elevated pressures (B1 bar) and the kinetics of the reaction compared with the conventional high surface area Pd/g-Al2O3 catalysts. The structure sensitivity of the CO þ NO reaction on different Pd surfaces is explained using Pd(111),...

The influence of alumina used as a support on the catalytic properties of Pt/Sn/Al2O3 systems in the dehydrogenation of isobutane

In this research different types of Al2O3 were used as supports to prepare catalysts for dehydrogenation of isobutane to isobutene. These supports were Al2O3 from Merck, Axen and gamma Al2O3 synthesized from Al(OH)3. Sn/Pt/Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by sequential impregnation, at first Pt and then Sn was deposited. Characterization of catalysts was performed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD)...

Photocatalytic degradation of E. coli bacteria using TiO2/SiO2 nanoparticles with photodeposited platinum

In this work, TiO2 /SiO2 (pure anatase), and TiO2 /SiO2 (anatase/rutile) nano-photocatalysts are prepared by using sol-gel method and control of acidity. The particles size is calculated using Scheerer, s equation and is estimated to be around 7-15 nm. In order to improve the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 /SiO2 ,1% (wt) platinum particles are loaded on both catalysts using photoreductive meth...
